GOVERNMENT says the upgrading of the Lusaka-Ndola road into a dual carriage way will facilitate the smooth transportation of goods and services and attract investment.
Minister of Green Economy and Environment Collins Nzovu says the construction of the road is part of Government’s commitment to attaining economic transformation as stipulated in the 8th National Development Plan.
ZANIS reports that Mr Nzovu was speaking during the ground-breaking ceremony of the Chibombo site for the Lusaka-Ndola dual carriage way which President Hakainde Hichilema officiated in Kapiri-Mposhi District.
Mr Nzovu noted that the road project is a beacon of hope for the people of Chibombo as it will foster job creation and business opportunities resulting in increased income at household level.
The Minister stated that Chibombo is a rural area that is mainly faced with limited employment opportunities, forcing residents to migrate to other towns in search of jobs.
Meanwhile, Chief Liteta of the Lenje people commended the Government for the timely upgrade of the road.
Chief Liteta said the road will help farmers in his chiefdom to conduct business timely and efficiently due to reduced hours of travel.
And Chisamba Member of Parliament Chushi Kasanda noted that the road will foster economic empowerment, through subcontracting local contractors.
Ms Kasanda thanked the Government for using the limited available resources to actualize the road construction.
