The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has Launched the Whistle Blower Protection Policy and the Conflict-of-Interest Policy aimed at enhancing the fight against corruption in the Ministry.
It is gratifying to note that the development and launch of the two policy documents is a great landmark in fulfilling the directives from the President of the Republic of Zambia, His Excellency, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema and the aspirations of the new dawn government in promoting zero tolerance to corruption.
It is worth noting that these policies exhibit the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to its core values; integrity, professionalism, teamwork, accountability, impartiality, transparency, innovativeness
The contents of the whistle blower protection policy:
 Encourages the employees to report suspected fraud, corruption or any other improper activities that threaten public interest. It also encourages members of the public to provide both positive and negative feedback as enshrined in our service charter.
 The policy is in conformity with the Public Interest Disclosure (protection of whistleblower) act no.4 of 2010 and the provisions of International Instruments to which Zambia is a state party; and the Ministry is confident this will enable it provide a service that will meet the expectations of the general public
The Conflict-of-Interest Policy serves as a cornerstone in the Ministry’s commitment to promote good governance. It outlines the principles and guidelines that will help the Ministry identify, manage and prevent conflicts of interest that may compromise the public trust and the effectiveness of its work. By adhering to the principles and procedures outlined in this policy, MIHUD has demonstrated its unwavering dedication to serving the needs of the communities without bias or undue influence.
This policy, reinforces the Ministry’s obligation to serve public interests above any personal gain. The policy also emphasises the importance of timely disclosure and transparency.
It is gratifying to note that the ministry’s integrity committee has continued to undertake various activities to enhance prevention, education and enforcement in the fight against corruption, which should be continued to promote transparency and integrity in the ministry.
Meanwhile the Anti Corruption Commission has commended the Integrity Committee under the leadership of the Permanent Secretary for taking the initiative to develop the Whistle Blower Protection Policy and the Conflict-of-Interest Policy. This demonstrates a strong commitment to good governance and a desire to create a transparent and accountable public service.
