ROAD TO PROSPERITY: GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY MARKS NEW ERA FOR BLUE LAGOON ROAD

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has launched the construction of the Blue Lagoon Road, a critical infrastructure project aimed at boosting economic growth and development .
Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Hon. Eng. Charles Milupi officiated the groundbreaking ceremony which was attended by several government officials.
The Blue Lagoon Road project involves the upgrade to bituminous standard of approximately 98 kilometers of road from Farmers Junction turnoff on Mumbwa Road to Muchabi Secondary and Primary Schools and 7 kilometers into the Blue Lagoon National Park.
The project is expected to improve access to the Blue Lagoon National Park, a hidden treasure with vast tourism potential, and support the agricultural and livestock production potential of the area.
The Minister emphasized the importance of this road in the government’s economic recovery and growth agenda. He stated that the road would create jobs, business opportunities, and earn the country much-needed foreign exchange through exports and tourism.
The project is part of the government’s efforts to prioritize economic recovery and growth, and to promote efficiency in the movement and delivery of goods, services, and people. The government believes that good quality roads are a prerequisite for enhanced economic activity, growth, and poverty alleviation.
The contractor China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation has been directed to ensure adherence to the government’s policy on quality of works, cost, and timely delivery of projects, as well as to support the government’s policy of job creation for locals and subcontracting to local contractors.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of a new era of economic growth and development in Central Province, and the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development looks forward to seeing the positive impact of this project on the lives of the people of Zambia.
