MINISTER MILUPI COMMISSIONS K2.2 MILLION INFRASTRUCTURE EXHIBITION STAND AT SHOWGROUNDS, HIGHLIGHTS VISION FOR NATIONAL ECONOMIC GROWTH
The Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Eng. Charles L. Milupi, has officially commissioned a state-of-the-art ministry exhibition stand at the Lusaka Agricultural and Commercial Showgrounds. Constructed at a cost of K2.2 million, the stand is designed to showcase the broad spectrum of infrastructure projects being implemented across the country under his ministry.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Eng. Milupi revealed that the new facility would serve as a central platform to highlight government achievements in infrastructure development. He further announced plans for next year’s show to be even more comprehensive, with all contractors from across the country expected to participate and exhibit their ongoing and completed projects.
“We want the people of Zambia to see the work being done throughout the country. Come next year, we will bring every contractor to this show so they can demonstrate what they’re building to move Zambia forward,” Eng. Milupi said.
He also commended President Hakainde Hichilema for his focused and determined leadership in driving the country’s economic transformation.
“President Hakainde Hichilema is very clear about what he wants to achieve, primarily to grow the economy. A growing economy is what enables us to invest in social services such as education, health, and care for the vulnerable,” Eng. Milupi stated.
Highlighting the Ministry of Infrastructure’s strategic role, the Minister emphasized that the sector is central to linking Zambia’s economic drivers through connectivity, be it roads, railways, bridges or airports. He cited major national infrastructure assets such as the Kazungula Bridge as examples of transformative investments.
Eng. Milupi also echoed President Hichilema’s ambitious vision of doubling Zambia’s economy from its current estimated value of $30 billion to $60 billion and beyond. He stressed that this goal can only be realized if all key economic sectors operate at full capacity.
“To reach this economic milestone, all four cylinders must fire simultaneously. The Ministry of Mines must hit its production target of 3 million tonnes of copper annually. The Ministry of Agriculture has been tasked with producing 10 million tonnes of maize, 1 million tonnes of soya beans and 1 million tonnes of wheat. And the Ministry of Tourism must reach its full potential. But none of this is possible without proper road networks and bridge infrastructure,” he explained.
In conclusion, Eng. Milupi applauded the New Dawn Administration for its bold agenda of economic expansion and reiterated government’s commitment to making Zambia economically independent by the year 2030.
