Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) is breaking new ground – literally,as Minister of Infrastructure marks the beginning of the $8.1 million KCM Road Project
The Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Eng. Charles L. Milupi, marked the beginning of the $8.1 million KCM Roads Project in Chililabombwe on August 9, 2025. This initiative will breathe new life into key roads across Chililabombwe, Chingola, and Shibuyunji, paving the way for improved safety, productivity, and economic growth.
Key Roads Under Development:
– Chililabombwe: 3.9km of Kamenza Way, Malachite Road, and Konkola Road
– Chingola: 4.41km of George Ngoma Road and 3rd, 4th, and 5th Street
– Shibuyunji: 7.1km of Nampundwe Road
The Minister emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in driving infrastructure development, highlighting the collaboration between KCM and the government.
โThis partnership with Konkola Copper Mines is one such example of private partnership in improving public infrastructure through road networks,” he said.
“We recognize the challenges that come with this mandate and therefore require collaboration from all stakeholders to achieve the standards we desire. I urge other private sector players to emulate KCM’s gesture and help rehabilitate community roads in their areas of operation,โ he further stated.
The Minister also stressed the need for local content participation in the project, urging KCM to subcontract part of the project to local contractors and employ people from the project communities.
Project Impact:
The KCM Roads Project is expected to significantly support both industry and local communities, improving safety and daily productivity in Chingola, Chililabombwe, and Shibuyunji. The project aligns with President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision for infrastructure development, which emphasizes quality, right pricing, and timely delivery.
With this project, the government reaffirms its commitment to partnerships that uplift communities and drive economic growth.
