Western Province is set to get a major infrastructure boost with the groundbreaking ceremony for the Katunda-Lukulu-Watopa-Mumbezi Road project.
Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Eng. Charles L. Milupi, officiated at the event, marking a significant milestone in the province’s development.
The project includes the upgrading to bituminous standard of approximately 80km of the Katunda-Lukulu-Watopa-Mumbezi Road in Mangango District, Western Province, marking the commencement of the road infrastructure project.
“This project is a testament to the New Dawn Government’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure development as a catalyst for inclusive growth,” Engineer Milupi said. “It aligns with our national vision to create a Zambia that is connected, competitive, and resilient.”
Key Highlights of the Project
– Contract Sum: ZMW 1,430,339,436.84
– Project Scope: Upgrading to bituminous standard of approximately 80km of road
– Contractor: AVIC International Project Engineering
– Expected Benefits: Improved road infrastructure will enhance economic development, facilitate trade, and increase access to essential services
Engineer Milupi said, “The road network in Western Province is supposed to play a pivotal role in driving economic development, enhancing rural livelihoods, and facilitating trade and access to essential services.”
“We encourage the private sector, especially local people who live along the Katunda-Lukulu-Watopa-Mumbezi Road corridor, to take advantage of business opportunities that will come as a result of the upgrading of this road.”
“I urge the contractor to ensure adherence to the government policy on quality of works and timely delivery of projects,” He added.
