The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing, and Urban Development has continued to hit major milestones in its quest to improve Zambia’s infrastructure. The groundbreaking ceremony for the upgrading to bituminous standard of approximately 95km of the Nchelenge-Chienge Road via Kashikishi and Mununga in Luapula Province marked another significant achievement.
The project, valued at ZMW1,957,714,217.32, will be undertaken by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Zambia Limited in joint venture with Palmetto Trading Ltd.
Minister of Infrastructure, Housing, and Urban Development, Hon. Eng. Charles L. Milupi, MP, emphasized the project’s transformative potential, saying, โThis road project, once completed, will not only reduce travel time and improve safety, but it will also unlock the vast economic potential of this province. It will support agriculture, fishing, tourism, and cross-border trade with our neighbours in the Democratic Republic of Congo.”
The Minister assured the local population that the project will create employment opportunities and benefit them not just when it’s completed but also during construction. โThis is your project. It must benefit you not just when it is completedโbut as it is being built,” he said.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of a new era of connectivity and economic growth for the people of Luapula Province. With the government’s commitment to prioritizing infrastructure development, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing, and Urban Development looks forward to working with all stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of this project.
