In a significant milestone for the town of Luanshya, the Minister of Infrastructure, Housing, and Urban Development, Hon. Eng. Charles L. Milupi, has commissioned the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction and rehabilitation of 8km of township roads.
The project, which is being undertaken through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, is expected to transform the lives of residents by improving connectivity, enhancing access to essential services, and creating employment opportunities.
“This is your project. It must benefit you not just when it is completed, but as it is being built,” Minister Milupi emphasized. “The New Dawn Government, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, is serious about developing this country and moving it forward. We are a government of action, not empty promises.”
The Minister also highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring that local communities benefit from the project. “The concessionaire, Macro Ocean Investment Consortium, has been directed to ensure maximum use of local labour, local materials, and local expertise, in line with the government’s local content policy,” he said.
The project is expected to have a significant impact on the local economy, particularly with the revival of mining operations at the Luanshya mine. “Once rehabilitated, the township roads will facilitate transportation of minerals from the mining sites to processing facilities,” Minister Milupi noted.
As the construction work begins, the people of Luanshya can look forward to a brighter future, with improved infrastructure and new economic opportunities. “This is only the beginning, expect more quality infrastructure of international standards across Zambia. Development is no longer a campaign promise; it is a living reality under this administration,” Minister Milupi added.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of a new era of development in Luanshya, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the lives of residents.
