MPONGWE-MACHIYA ROAD TO INTERNATIONAL BITUMINOUS STANDARD USING THE PPP FINANCING MODE

Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Eng. Charles Milupi has announced that the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Council of Ministers two days ago approved a concession to upgrade the Luansobe-Mpongwe-Machiya road to international bituminous standard via the PPP financing mode.
Officiating at this year’s Nsengele Kununka traditional ceremony of the Lima people of Mpongwe district on Saturday, Eng. Milupi said, following the PPP Council’s approval, the matter was now before the Attorney General and Accountant General for further consideration.
The project scope is as follows:
– Rehabilitation of the existing 64-kilometre tarred road from Luansobe to Mpongwe.
– Upgrading of the 68-kilometre Mpongwe-Machiya road to an international standard tarred road.
– Upgrading of the Machiya to Ngabwe road, a 64-kilometre distance, to international bituminous standard road.
– Tarring of 20 kilometres of township roads around Mpongwe town.
– Construction of four bridges, starting with a 120-metre span bridge across the Kafue River at Machiya; two 80-metre and 40-metre span bridges across the Lusuwishi River respectively; and a 120-metre span bridge across the Kafue River at Ngabwe.
Eng. Milupi, who was representing President Hakainde Hichilema at the traditional ceremony attended by 18 traditional leaders from across the country, said the signing ceremony will take place in Mpongwe ounce the overnight process has been concluded.
