The Construction Sector Transparency Initiative (CoST) International Board members paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Infrastructure and Urban Development, Hon. Charles Milupi MP, at his office.
The Minister, who is also the CoST Champion, was represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Mr. Dennis Siampwizi.
CoST, the Infrastructure Transparency Initiative, works with governments, civil society, and the private sector in 20 countries, including Zambia, to promote greater transparency, participation, and accountability in public infrastructure.
The meeting aimed to introduce the CoST International Board Members to the ministry responsible for infrastructure development in Zambia.
The Acting Permanent Secretary supported CoST principles to be enshrined in existing policies as a way of ensuring sustainability.
CoST principlesโ€”such as the disclosure of vital project information throughout the projectโ€™s life cycleโ€”are essential in infrastructure development as they ensure the government obtains value for money, with the aim of delivering projects within time, within the agreed-upon budgets, and to the expected standards.
The team of international delegates was led by Mr. Reuben Lifuka, the Chairperson of the Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG) for CoST in Zambia.
